State Vehicle Auctions

state car auctions imagePerhaps you had a good few years’ service from your current car and are looking for something new.   If you don’t want to break the bank, but still want that much needed change in your transportation, state vehicle auctions may just be the way to go. These auctions have long been renowned for providing absolute bargains for those that take the time to shop around. Many businesses make (or save) millions a year by taking advantage of the great deals that state vehicle auctions offer.

Usually the department in charge of a State’s surplus property will have a subdivision tasked with the State’s fleet management. It’s normally this department that bears the ultimate responsibility for the disposal of the State’s vehicles at state vehicle auctions.

As with other States assets, the auction of vehicles are also publicly announced beforehand in an acceptable state wide newspaper, and supplemented with other means of electronic communication.

This off course not only gives potential bidders the chance to clear their schedules, but also enough time to make their way to the State warehouse for an inspection of the cars before the State vehicle auction.

A very smart entrepreneur once said that profit is made the moment you made a good purchase. This is very true for bidding at auctions, and in particular auto auctions such as these. Therefore, make sure to have a thorough look at the condition of the vehicle before you decide on bidding on it. Most warehouse managers won’t allow a test drive, but at least the opportunity to start the engine and have a good look under the hood. If you have a mechanic friend, take them with you. If you don’t, the discounts you get at these State vehicle auctions can be so good that, it may even be worthwhile to hire the services of an expert to give his opinion on the car’s conditions.

With the rise of the internet over the last decade, various state governments have also started utilising its power in order to ensure a more efficient auction and bidding process. With an increasing popularity State departments are auctioning their vehicles through private auction sites, official government websites or even through Ebay. Remember the headlines Alaska Governor Sarah Palin made when she used Ebay to auction off one of the State’s jets? This just shows how often States use these outlets. A Great resource if you take the time to shop around.

Transacting at these car auctions is very easy. Even though some States still accept partial payments, it’s more common practice nowadays for States to insist on full payment on the auction day or a large deposit payment with the balance to follow within no longer than a few days.   The payment methods accepted at these state vehicle auctions are generally a cashier’s cheque, cash or generally accepted credit cards.

If you had the winning bid, you will usually need to take ownership of the vehicle within a week or so – the State doesn’t want their warehouse filled up with your car! All factors considered, these auctions happen frequently and are well worth your effort.
